Carrier is expanding its Geothermal Water Source Heat Pumps to include a 100 percent-dedicated outdoor air application from 6- to 35-tons. Carrier® 62R water source heat pumps will be available in gas or electric heat from 1,000 to 11,000 cfm with fully integrated controls. The robust design includes G90 steel, double wall construction and factory applied harsh environment protection coating to combat atmospheric conditions. Units also feature Air Conditioning, Heating, And Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) listed Enthalpy wheel, hot gas reheat, and digital compressors. Carrier, the world’s leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“As customers continue to look to save energy and costs, the renewable energy source of a geothermal heat pump system makes it one of the best heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems available,” stated Greg Alcorn, vice president, commercial sales and marketing, Carrier. “These units are eligible for federal tax credits, further increasing the appeal of these cost-effective, flexible systems.”

Available in the first quarter of 2013, Carrier 62R serves as a dedicated make-up air unit, taking varying amounts of outdoor air and conditioning it by cooling the air down to remove the moisture and then using hot gas reheat to warm the air before discharging into the space. Utilized with appropriate cooling devices, the 62R can satisfy the ventilation requirements for a geothermal water source heat pump system, while the indoor heat pumps handle the latent load in the space.  Another benefit to these units is their geothermal capabilities, so they can be tied into the same water loop as conventional indoor heat pumps making them ideal for schools, office buildings, assisted living facilities, among others.
