The European Commission has established an action plan to promote the construction/building sector as a driving force in the creation of jobs and for sustained growth for the EU economy in general.
The financial and economic crisis lead to a work decrease in the building and infrastructure sector of about 17% between January 2008 and April 2012 accross the European Union.
Yet the building sector is perceived as one of the main forces that can help the EU to recover and have economic growth again.
It therefore sees a great potential for low energy buildings.
Since these houses have still a limited market uptake, despite their economic (the construction sector comprises more than 10% of total employment in the EU) and environmental (energy efficient and using renewable energies) advantages.
