ROCKWOOL opened a plant in Russia
The first stone was laid in the plant’s foundation in the summer of 2008 but due to the crisis the project was delayed.
The company has invested $150 million in building the production line in Alabuga. The annual capacity of the thermal insulation and construction material plant is 110 thousand tonnes. About 250 jobs have been created. The plant began to manufacture products before the official opening, in February, three months ahead of schedule.
“The government of Russia a few years back declared energy efficiency the economic policy’s priority. Our task is to reduce by 40 percent the country’s GDP,” Elvira Nabiullina said in her welcoming remarks. Wide application of advanced technologies in construction, namely, mineral wool products, will allow the country save up to 300 billion roubles a year, she added.
“This is a very large global-standard project. It will give strong momentum to Western investors changing their perceptions. They will see that Russia has provided every condition for investment, that the Russian market is very large. We need the today’s example very much. In general, the SEZ Alabuga is very fast paced: 30 residents, 80 billion roubles of confirmed investments. We are already talking about doubling the size of the zone. Our task is by 2016 to achieve a GRP of 2 trillion roubles, and the SEZ is one of our points of growth,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
Rockwool Group president Eelco van Heel said he had over the course of running the project in Tatarstan met with Tatarstan president five times and knew no other executive giving so much support to businesses.
