"Euro 2012 has shown that we can allocate rather significant resources in the country if we want this," Tigipko said in an interview with Interfax- Ukraine, "energy saving is now one of the most pressing problems for us."
He added that studies show that consumers pay less after the installment of meters which allow close monitoring of electricity use, these meters allow changes in energy demand to be made.
Tigipko revealed that without adopting a comprehensive metering programme, utility prices will rise by at least 32 percent for 10 millions (from 17 million) of households.
